According to, “Over 100 million animals are burned, crippled, poisoned, and abused in U.S. labs yearly.” Testing products on animals has been a debated topic for many years. We are using animals to develop medical treatments, determine how dangerous medications are, check the safety of products made for humans to use, and other biomedical, commercial, and health care uses. Conducting research on living organisms has been around since about 500 BC. Animal testing certainly has created life-changing cures for humans and animals. Nonetheless, the animals being researched on are dying and it is inhumane to experiment on animals. Animals used in experiments are commonly administered forced consumption, a lack of food and water, extended periods of physical restraint, burns and other injuries to study the healing process, the infliction of pain to study its effects and remedies, and the animals can be killed by carbon dioxide, asphyxiation, neck-breaking, decapitation, or other horrible actions that are subjected to the animals. Humans are animals too and this thought should be considered while animals are being abused, poisoned, burned, and crippled. We should not be using animals for testing or research.Primarily, there are alternatives to animal testing. Some scientists and researchers say there is no alternative to animal testing and if we stopped using animals for research, we would pay the price with medications which were not tested completely, or cures that don’t work on people. In vitro testing, like studying cells in a petri dish, can construct better results than animal testing because we can use our own human cells. Microdosing, a process in which doses too small to cause effects, can be given to human volunteers, whose blood will then be analyzed. This method wouldn’t affect humans or animals and is an effective way to test products. Artificial human skin is made from sheets of human skin, cells grown in test tubes or plastic wells and can fabricate more useful results than animal skin can. Computer models of organs can even predict the toxicity of the product being used. There are alternatives to animal testing that will successfully stop animals testing and research if used.
