a study show that play therapy improves behavioral effectiveness and social
skills. Children who behave socially incompetent may exhibit improper behavior,
such as emotional instability, and difficulties in contacting peers. So to deal
with behavioral problems, by playing play therapy, toys and plays become the
main expression of children’s skills. Children have the ability to project
their feelings onto stimuli. Landreth describes toys as giving different
symbolic meanings. Toys and plays are a way for children to express their
negative feelings and to express positive emotions. The child’s play is not
fictional, but a true reflection of his or her subjective reality(Allen &
Barber, 2015) .

there any limitation or weakness in treatment?
Like anything else, there’s always a downside. Play therapy is like any
treatment where clinicians may misuse or mistakenly use it, causing the child
to shut down their natural development process and thus cause the child to
leave. Sometimes parents see their children only play. Therefore, play therapy
is considered by parents to be ineffective, this gives the real play therapist
a bad understanding and impression. For parents it is difficult to understand
the purpose of “play”, why use this purpose, how to draw conclusions
from it is confusing. Therefore many parents misinterpret play therapy,
“pay money and play with my kids.” Some children do not respond and
dissatisfied parents do not bring their children back. Sometimes It’s hard to
explain how they play. Play Therapy,it does not apply to every child or every
problem. Therapists need to be well-trained and continue to monitor play
therapy(Sweeney & Tatum, 1995 ) .

advantage of play therapy is that play therapy provides a more relaxing
environment for children. The play itself is the child’s natural form of
treatment and emotional adjustment, itself contains the benefits of mental
health. This setting allows for a more relaxed and intimate relationship
between children and therapists. The advantage of play therapy is that it is in
a relaxed, non clinical environment that is familiar to children. Playing is a
natural way for children to adjust their emotions. Children develop closer ties
with therapists. Play therapy is most effective when the child’s pain is unknown,
and play therapy simply leads to hidden fears and worries through the way
children play(Creative counseling center, 2017) . The disadvantage of game
therapy is that the study of game therapy is mixed and there is not enough
evidence to support. Some of the reasons for the study of play therapy are
vague. Play therapy is often a long and lengthy process that requires patience.
Play therapy can be a slow and arduous process (In O’Connor, In Schaefer, &
In Braverman, 2016 ) . As a result, it may take months or even no therapeutic
significance. Play therapy depends largely on the skill of the therapist. Fully
understand the history of children’s play therapists, deeply concerned about
the personality of children, spend time for each unique child to find the most
effective way to communicate, in order to create a play therapy miracle.
Finding the right child therapist is the key (Keep your childsafe, 2017) .

Play therapy
: Skills and Techniques

are many different techniques and skills in play therapy(Axline, 1969). In toys
and object playing technology : Plush dolls, therapists may provide customers
with plush toys to help comfort their children during the treatment process.
Medical games, a customer who has just undergone a stressful medical process
may have a game check on one of their plush toys, so they can feel a sense of
control. Doll play, therapists can use dolls to create positive, nurturing
behavioral patterns for clients, or to let customers play with dolls to see
what their instincts are. Client may be abused by their parents if they start
abusing dolls. Toy phone playback, customers and therapists may have a toy
phone that therapists can ask and administer on the phone healing problems.
Client may be more inclined to answer such questions indirectly, if they feel
uncomfortable, they can hang up the phone. Sensory games, therapists may let
customers use shaving cream to play shaving cream, carve it, or even pretend to
shave, so that customers can creatively express themselves, feel more relaxed
and controlled(Hall, Kaduson, & Schaefer, 2002 ).

and narrative skills: concrete drama metaphor, therapists may present dozens of
kinds of toys to their clients and then ask them to pick toys that represent
family members. This will help the therapist understand the client’s
perceptions and feelings about their family. An emotional thermometer can
present an “emotional thermometer” to the client, showing from 0
(with a smiley face) to 10 (with a frown face) and asked to list the points of
events that make them feel different about them on the thermometer (Leggett
& Boswell, 2017 ). Storytelling, the therapist may ask the client to tell a
story that begins with “Once upon a time.” This story may reveal the
client’s fear and hope. Role-playing skills: role-playing, therapists and
clients may act as a client’s concern, such as the first day of school, so that
the child can feel the anxiety they are feeling and may realize that they do
not need anxiety at all. Superheroes play, therapists may ask client to draw
superheroes, and therapists can help guests Households understand how their
personal strengths are as useful as superpowers (Schaefer & Cangelosi,

Why Want To
Be A Play Therapy?

me, I want to be a play therapist because I like to play. “Playing”
is a good way for me to relax and vent my feelings. It is also a good way to
use one’s own interest to Counsel others. This is my first impression of play
therapist. Then, I spent a lot of time to understand the industry, found the
industry’s interesting place. Because of the growth of childhood experience, I
have a lot of time to get along with the children, learn to use the
“play” method is the most appropriate way to communicate with
children. The simplest, most natural, and ahamani acceptable approach is to
build relationships with them. The child knows the word is limited, so the
words and the speech express oneself is limited. But that doesn’t mean they
don’t have feelings, they just don’t know how to express themselves. Therefore
I hope to be able to “play” to help children who do not know how to
express themselves, they can have multiple ways to express themselves and
understand themselves.

Studies have
specifically pointed out that game therapy has improved the internalization of
control and self-control characteristics in homeless children and has shown
positive trends in support development. There are many benefits of play
therapy, but play therapy has not been fully popularized in Hong Kong. Many
people have no knowledge of play therapy. Coupled with the absence of a
professional licensing system for game therapy in Hong Kong, it is felt that
play therapy is not a profession. Hoping that can have more room for
development in Hong Kong (Bratton, Ray, Rhine, & Jones, 2005) (Siu, 2010).
