Since I started teaching, an
increased knowledge and a better understanding of ELT approaches and methodology
through doing Cambridge CELTA& DELTA module 2. I have made me more willing
to ‘let go’ in the classroom. Methods of teaching English have developed
rapidly, especially in the previous 40 years. As a language teacher or teacher
trainer, it is important to understand the various methods and techniques in
teaching English. From my experience, there is not one single best method
for everyone in all contexts, and that no one teaching method is
inherently superior to the others.

 

Each teaching method is based
on a particular vision of understanding the language or the learning process. The
main methodologies for ELT teaching are listed below:

I want my students to be central to the lesson,
and prefer to see materials and techniques as aids to their learning rather
than key to my planning. My lessons have reflected my belief that students are
more motivated when involved in real communication activities linked to a
context which genuinely interests them and over which they have some control.
Hopefully, this leads to better L2 acquisition.
